This workshop is designed for teams performing all types of web writing in the business, nonprofit, and government realms. Relying on active-learning strategies, the session prompts participants to consider, critique, and begin to re-envision the organization's online presences in real time. The workshop strikes a balance between emphasizing higher-level issues, such as persuasive appeals and concerns of audience, and lower-level skills, like concision and shifts in language in on one platform or site as opposed to another.
 
In this workshop, participants will learn to:
  • Understand how online writing differs from print writing
  • Recognize effective texts in a variety of genres, from a well-crafted tweet to a compelling "About Us" page
  • Demonstrate their acquired understanding of various online writing standards and conventions, including organizational websites and blogs, social media, and other mediums 
  • Develop strategies for clearer, more effective email writing
  • Effectively repurpose/redistribute content across platforms
  • Create persuasive writing in various forms, utilizing multiple kinds of appeals
  • Perform a targeted audience analysis, and identify, analyze, and effectively write to multiple audiences to achieve specific organizational objectives 
  • Adapt their writing in tone, language, and form for various online platforms
  • Understand and adhere to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • Consider the use of images and video for various purposes in online writing
  • Draft a thoughtful, comprehensive, and actionable social media plan
