Professional Writing Training

Successful professional and technical writing can be a challenge whether you’re new to the workplace or a seasoned business writer. However, we don’t buy the old “you’re born a writer or you’re not” adage. Contrary to what many struggling writers in business, government, and the non-profit realm believe, we know that writing at work doesn’t have to be a chore. With the right knowledge, process, and guidance, writers can not only communicate more strategically, but also with greater ease.

The George Washington University offers professional and technical writing workshops to organizations in and around Washington, DC. Rooted in best practices, sessions are highly interactive and combine a variety of teaching techniques, including, for instance, large-group discussion, exercises, assessment, partner work, and reflection.

Participants

Workshops are available for very small or slightly larger groups, allowing managers to increase the effectiveness of their employees’ writing by utilizing the skills, experience, and pedagogical knowledge of professional writing professors. Ideally workshops serve a maximum of 12 participants. If your team is larger than this, contact us to discuss options to ensure your employees get the most from their training experience.

Some organizations choose to run just one or two workshops on a topic pertinent to their team’s immediate needs, and others schedule a large-scale series offered annually to different employees.

Venue

Workshops typically take place at the client’s office space. This space should include a projector for a laptop and either a white board or a flip chart. If no such space exists, classroom or conference room space can be secured at the Mount Vernon campus of the George Washington University.
