Join Planet Forward and GW's Writing in the Disciplines program for a virtual presentation and Q&A with musician, author, and researcher Jonathan Meiburg

Blackboard: Using Rubrics

Learn how to create a rubric, associate it to a graded activity, and effortlessly grade using an interactive rubric.

Instructions: Join WID Deputy Director Randi Kristensen immediately afterwards from 3:00 - 3:30 via Zoom to talk about how to apply rubrics to writing assignments. Attendance will be taken at the start of the sesion.

GW Diversity Summit (Registration TBA)

Attend one keynote AND any one workshop, or two workshops if one is specifically teaching or writing oriented.

Wednesday, November 18, 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. 

Effective and efficient responding to student writing, with Philip Troutman, WID Director, and Randi Kristensen, WID Deputy Director. We will discuss the best ways to deliver feedback on student writing in the online environment, from shared docs to voice comments.

Location TBA. Plan for in-person; if not, we will schedule via Zoom. Attendance will be taken at the start of the session.


Tuesday, December 14, 2021 3 p.m.  – 4 p.m.

Inclusive Teaching: Strategies for Engaging All Students 

Strategize about implementing Inclusive techniques, addressing potential barriers, and adjusting for specific course contexts.

Submit a written response that reflects on how you might utilize anything you learned in your teaching. GAs should email a PDF (with their full name and GWID enclosed) to [email protected], "SUBJ: Inclusive Teaching Strategies Response” no later than Dec. 19.


Wednesday, December 15, 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. 

Reflections on the semester, with Philip Troutman, WID Director. This is an opportunity to get together and have a frank conversation about what worked, what didn't work, what we're thinking about trying next semester, and ways the WID program can support your teaching.


Location TBA. Plan for in-person; if not, we will schedule via Zoom. Attendance will be taken at the start of the session.

Reminder on WID workshop compensation policies:

New WID GAs should attend the two-part series led by Randi Kristensen in Spring (for first-timers only), plus any four others throughout the year. You will be compensated for these six workshops, which may include the Distinguished Lecture and WID Distinguished Roundtable.

Returning WID GAs may attend as many as they wish (except for the two-part Spring series for first timers). You will be compensated for attending up to three workshops throughout the year (except for the Distinguished Lecture and Roundtable).
