Virtual Workshops During COVID-19

Currently, we are only offering virtual workshops due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To check on the status of on-site workshop options, or for any other questions, please email program director Jessica McCaughey at [email protected].

Description

Grammar is rhetorical and contextual; what works or what is “right” in one situation may not be appropriate or correct in another. This workshop not only offers a refresher on both common and advanced grammar and punctuation challenges, but also provides workplace writers a more nuanced and complex understanding of language choice and how to effectively communicate in the workplace through those choices. This workshop will benefit any workplace writer who could use a refresher on sentence-level writing and also those interested in the nuances of language use.

Outcomes

In this workshop, participants will learn to:

  • Identify and resolve common and complex grammar challenges and other sentence-level errors
  • Properly use all punctuation, including complex use of commas and semicolons
  • Consider in an informed manner the use of passive vs. active voice, point of view, word choice and other sentence-level decisions
  • Find and articulate their own most common sentence-level issues and better edit for them
  • Spot and “fix” errors in all types of documents that cross their desk
