Dr. Nabila Hijazi recently published a chapter titled “Beyond One Community: Building Empathy Across Communities” in the edited collection, Enacting Empathy: Stories and Strategies from the Writing Classroom. In the chapter, Dr. Hijazi explores how students can engage in dialogue both with themselves and with others by listening to the experiences of communities they may initially perceive as “other.” She argues that empathy in the writing classroom is not simply about understanding difference, but about fostering meaningful human connection and relationships across communities.
