DEVELOPING AN Effective WRITING PRACTICE
for students from all backgrounds and disciplines.

Who We Are

GW’s University Writing Program (UWP) aims to strengthen every GW student's ability to write clearly and effectively, preparing them for excellence in their academic and professional careers. First Year Writing courses and Writing in the Disciplines courses approach writing through a variety of topics to engage students across their academic careers at GW.

Certified as a program of excellence by the Conference on College Composition and Communication, UWP emphasizes the importance of writing in all academic, public and professional enterprises that require critical thinking and communication. The program also houses the GW Writing Center, offering year-round writing support to all GW undergraduates, graduate students and faculty.

What We Offer

"My UW 1020 professor threw students right into the thick of things with great readings and daily philosophical conversations that struck at the heart of what it would mean if we met the fullest potential of our individual writing abilities."
